The Domains of Stewardship: Managing God’s Gifts for His Glory
Imagine a king entrusting his kingdom to a group of stewards…each given a portion to manage: fields to cultivate, treasures to protect, or people to serve. In the same way, God has entrusted each of us with responsibilities in our lives.
Biblical stewardship is not just about money. It’s about faithfully managing every gift God has given us: our health, relationships, time, work, and more, for His glory.
This is the first part of our four part series on The Domains of Stewardship, where we’ll explore how to manage each area in a way that honors the One who gave it to us.
1. Stewarding Your Health and Body
Our bodies are a gift from God, and caring for them is an act of worship. Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 6:19–20:
“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit…? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.”
While 1 Timothy 4:8 says that physical training is of some value, it’s clear that caring for our bodies matters because a healthy body allows us to serve God and others more effectively.
Neglecting our health can sap our energy, cloud our joy, and hinder our ability to love well. Caring for our health is not vanity; it’s stewardship.
Practical step: Commit to regular movement and mindful eating, not just to live longer, but to live better for God’s purposes.
2. Stewarding Your Marriage & Family
Our closest relationships are sacred trusts from God. Husbands are called in Ephesians 5:25 to love their wives as Christ loved the church, and parents are instructed in Proverbs 22:6 to train up their children in the right way.
These relationships won’t thrive by accident. They require time, intentionality, and often, a budget line.
- Schedule regular date nights with your spouse.
- Take your kids out one on one.
- Be present during family time—phones down, attention up.
We only have a short season to shape our children and deepen our marriages. Steward those moments now, not “someday.”
3. Stewarding Your Time
Time is one of our most precious and limited resources. Ephesians 5:15–16 urges us to live wisely, “making the most of every opportunity.”
Think of your life as a jar:
- If you fill it first with the small pebbles of distraction, there’s no room for the big rocks—faith, family, service.
- But if you place the big rocks in first, the smaller things will fit around them.
Psalm 90:12 teaches us to “number our days” so that we may gain wisdom. Recognizing the brevity of life changes how we spend our minutes, hours, and days.
Practical step: Identify your “big rocks” and schedule them first in your week.
4. Stewarding Your Work
Work was part of God’s good design before the Fall. In Genesis 2:15, Adam was placed in the Garden to work and care for it. Work is not just about earning a paycheck—it’s a way to partner with God in making the world more beautiful and functional.
Colossians 3:23–24 reminds us:
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord… It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”
Your role, whether as a teacher, a barista, a CEO, or a stay at home parent, is an opportunity to reflect God’s character and serve others.
Living as Faithful Stewards
God has entrusted each of us with unique domains: health, family, time, and work. Each is a gift to be managed not for our glory, but for His.
Luke 16:10 tells us, “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much.” How we steward these gifts today shapes the eternal responsibilities we’ll hold in God’s Kingdom.
This week’s challenge:
Pick one domain—health, family, time, or work—and take a practical step to steward it better.
- Go for a walk.
- Plan a date night.
- Block time for prayer.
- Approach your work as worship.
Whatever you choose, do it as an act of worship to the King who entrusted it to you.
Next in this series: We’ll explore how to steward your story, beauty, and mission for God’s glory. Stay tuned!
